We have been using the Enzo one.drop leakage sensor for a year. We received it through our insurance. We had two major water damages in our house that were not our fault, so we were sensitive to the issue. Luckily!!! Six weeks ago, there was a leak in our water-based fireplace. An emergency sensor had triggered incorrectly, and water, intended for extinguishing and cooling the fireplace, leaked out. Enzo 'responded' and warned us. We were then able to shut off most of the water until the technician fixed the issue—which took four days due to a lack of replacement parts. Without Enzo, we would have had significant damage, and additional costs would have been incurred due to the immense water consumption. What is "underinsurance" and how do I protect myself against it?
An underinsurance occurs when the value of your house exceeds the sum for which you have insured it. This means that the reconstruction cost of the house exceeds the agreed insurance amount. If damage occurs, it can result in only partial reimbursement of costs. At Enzo, we waive the reduction of insurance benefits due to underinsurance, provided that your information is complete and accurate. Note: The insurance amount should still be chosen so that in the event of a total loss, you can rebuild your house to the same standard. While certain costs beyond the insurance amount may be reimbursed, such as debris removal, more money than the agreed insurance sum will not be paid for the reconstruction of the house. If you are unsure whether your current sum is correct, please feel free to contact us.
What is "gross negligence"?
A damage is considered to be caused by gross negligence if, for example, you forget a pan on the hot stove after cooking, causing your house to catch fire. These are damages that arise from thoughtless and reckless actions. In some insurance policies, performance reductions up to and including non-payment are provided for this case. With your residential building insurance at Enzo, damages caused by yourself are also covered.
When I sell my house, what happens to the insurance?
If you sell your house, the insurance coverage transfers to the new owner. If the buyer does not wish to continue the home building insurance, they must cancel it themselves within one month. It's advisable to inform us about the sale and ideally provide the new owner's details.
Why does the premium for my building insurance increase annually?
The premium for your building insurance is based on the sliding new value factor. This factor adjusts annually to reflect current construction cost developments, which may include rising costs (also known as an adjustment factor). This ensures that adequate coverage is always maintained, preventing underinsurance of your property. The advantage of this approach is that in the event of a total loss, the insurer will reimburse the current rebuilding value. This annual premium adjustment through the sliding new value factor applies to every building insurance policy, regardless of the provider.
What does the Enzo building insurance cover?
With our building insurance, your house is protected against damage from fire and lightning, water pipe leaks, storm and hail, as well as natural disasters. Covered damages include those to building components such as roofs, walls, doors, windows, balconies, and terraces. Also included in the insurance coverage are permanently installed fixtures inside the house, such as built-in furniture, bathtubs, heating systems, and permanently laid flooring. Additionally, your policy covers damages to photovoltaic systems on the roof, building damage caused by burglary, and graffiti damage. Do I need homeowners insurance?
If you want to repair damages to your home, it can quickly cost a fortune. There are also potential risks that could completely destroy your home, such as fire. Often, personal savings are not sufficient to cover the full repair costs. With a homeowners insurance policy, it steps in and covers all expenses. This protects you from financial or even existential ruin. By the way, if you financed your home purchase with a loan, most banks require homeowners insurance as a mandatory requirement.
What costs are covered by homeowners insurance?
Your homeowners insurance covers repair costs and rebuilding in the event of damage. This also includes cleanup and demolition work necessary to remove the damage. If your home is uninhabitable due to the damage, the insurance also covers accommodation costs in a hotel for the duration of the repairs. We don't live in a flood zone, do I still need elemental protection?
Even if you don't live near a body of water, the consequences of heavy rainfall or other severe weather disasters can still affect your home. The flood catastrophe in 2021 serves as an example of this. Floods are just one natural event that poses a potential threat to your home. Severe storms and significant hailstorms occur more frequently and can happen anywhere. Additionally, with elemental protection, you are also covered for damages caused by earthquakes, landslides, snow pressure, and avalanches. This coverage ensures that you are protected against a wide range of natural disasters, providing peace of mind for unexpected events that could impact your home.
Homeowners insurance and home contents insurance - what are the differences?
The homeowners and home contents insurance covers similar causes of damage - from fire to water damage. Which insurance kicks in depends on what was damaged: If damage occurs to the building itself, outbuildings, or permanently attached objects, the homeowners insurance comes into play. Covered, for example, are house walls, your fitted kitchen, or water pipes. In contrast, a home contents insurance only covers your household effects - this includes all movable furnishings and utility items.
How much does homeowners insurance cost?
